| Who is Cletis Tout? (2002) (DivX) English |
| Customer Review From amazon.com Synopsis : Trevor Finch ( Christian Slater) is captured by a hitman named Critical Jim ( Tim Allen). Trying to postpone the inevitable, Finch begs to tell Jim his story. Since Jim loves old movies, he gives Finch 90 minutes to pitch him his story and convince him that he's got the wrong guy. The story revolves around a 20 year old diamond heist. Micah Donnelly (Richard Dreyfuss) managed to steal and successfully hide 4.5 million dollars in diamonds. Unfortunately, he is eventually caught and is forced to leave his five year old daughter Tess behind, and serve 25 years in prison. Twenty years later, Finch meets Micah on the inside. They eventually become best friends, and decide to break out of prison together to reclaim the diamonds. Finch manages to secure the two of them new identities with the help of his friend at the county corener's office Dr. Savian ( Billy Connolly). The only problem is that Finch takes the identity of a photojournalist named Cletis Tout, who is supposed to be dead. To make matters worse, the real Cletis Tout was killed by the mob. Now the mob thinks that they killed the wrong guy, and hire Jim to kill Finch. Now Micah, Finch, and Micha's daughter Tess(Portia de Rossi)must find the diamonds, while avoiding the cops, the mob, and Critical Jim.
My Thoughts : I knew absolutely nothing about this film except for the fact that it had been shunned by critics and given bad reviews here on Amazon.com. With that being said, I had very low expectations going in. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how good this film really was. Every once and awhile you manage to find a true sleeper that has a wonderful cast, and a great story. "Who is Cletis Tout" succeeded on both ends. Christian Slater, Richard Dreyfus, RuPaul, Billy Connolly, and Portia de Rossi were all excellent. However the standout performance has to go to Tim Allen. One of the best roles I have ever seen him give. It is great to see him relate everything to old movies. I also liked the fact that he stepped outside his usual comedic role to play a tough hitman. The overall story never slows down, and will keep you entertained for the entire time. It features a great mix of romance, comedy and mistaken identity, and mistaken identity films always manage to be entertaining. I must warn you that the plot does have a lot of twists and turns, and will require your attention. But if you are prepared to give it, I guarantee that you will enjoy this film.
Overall : "Who is Cletis Tout" offers an exciting and complex story of mistaken identity and romance, along with wonderful performances and a lot of laughs. The DVD has no extras whatsoever, but is still a must own for the film itself. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED --Ryan Deffley
