| Martian Successor Nadesico Japanese (English) | 
| Nadesico is an intelligent space navy series. There are a couple of things about Nadesico that really stand out above and beyond normal anime plotlines. First, I don't know who wrote the science into the series but it is FANTASTIC. They actually gave some thought to why things in the series work the way they do. This is the only show I have ever seen that mentions Feynman's theories as to why the speed of light is not constant. You may not have heard about that but I had, and I was truly impressed with this intelligent aspect of the series. That's hard science fiction. Second, I don't know who wrote this series but they were a SERIOUS anime otaku. First, we find one of the characters is obsessed with the anime inside the anime, called Gekiganger. Fine. Then he gets Akito obsessed with it. Sure. I don't want to give too much of the plot away, but by the end of the series practically EVERYONE is obsessed with it, and consider it a major moral influence. Talk about extreme. It's this aspect of the series that most people find the most annoying.
Akito was under attack on Mars by mysterious robotic invaders from Jupiter. Then suddenly, he finds himself on Earth. Eventually he finds himself joining the crew of the Nadesico as a cook and backup mech pilot, a private battleship built by Nergal Industries. They want only the best crewmembers, no matter how eccentric they may otherwise be, and they get them, including the airheaded but tactically brilliant Captain Yurika, a childhood friend of Akito's, and the blase cybernetic child Ruri, the computer expert. Also along for the ride is a mad engineer, a seiyuu communications officer, a motherly chef, and some crazy mech pilots. Together they try to get to the bottom of the war between Jupiter and Earth, and the mystery of what happened on Mars.
A very good series, which i can surely advise:-)
