| Overview:
Blue Gender is an unusual late night series. Although the character design seems a bit odd, even crude, the bug and mech design is top notch. There's a unique feel to the action in this series - it more nearly resembles a war movie than anything else. And like a good modern war movie, it doesn't shy away from showing the ugly side of it. Blue Gender is full of the splattering deaths of humans and especially bugs. People frequently die in ignoble ways and do unflattering things - the main character of the series actually wets himself in the first episode.
Kaido Yuji was put into cold sleep when he was diagnosed with an incurable illness. He receives the rudest awakening of his life when he finds himself being carted down a hall by soldiers under attack by the gigantic insects, nearly eaten, and then rescued by mechs.
Welcome to the year 2031. Bugs known as "Blue" mysteriously appeared on earth in 2017 and immediately pushed all life on earth nearly to extinction. These living machines are capable of converting matter into energy, breed quickly, and can evolve in no time flat in order to combat humans. Faced with this unstoppable threat, humans abandoned earth and moved to space, and there trained for their return to earth. To these hardened warriors, Yuji is nothing more than a sample of life before the Blue, mere cargo. And Yuji realizes that if he wants to survive and reclaim some part of the world he once knew, he has to fight for it...
