| Sudden weather changes and multiple renditions of Judy Garland¡¯s ``Over the Rainbow¡¯¡¯ are just some of the indicators of substandard filmmaking apparent in the just-opened Korean-language romantic comedy, Over the Rainbow, starring well-known actor Lee Jeong-jae and actress Jang Jin-yeong(a).
Weatherman Jin-soo (Lee), suffers a car accident that leaves him with an interesting case of selective amnesia. He doesn¡¯t discover his ailment until he leaves the hospital and realizes that he doesn¡¯t recognize the dog that he was taking care of, or the strange messages on his answering machine from a supposed former girlfriend. For some unfathomable reason, Jin-soo never seeks medical consultation for his condition throughout the entire film.
Jin-soo starts out on a quest to identify his true love, spurred on by several clues he discovers from the past. The most compelling are strange flashes of memory and a picture that he took, both involving the same unidentified woman. Jin-soo¡¯s mission leads him in the direction of several potential women and takes us through his college years and other past experiences. Crucial to helping him reconstruct his lost memories is his good friend Yun-hee (Jang Jin-young), who recently broke up with their mutual friend Sang-in (Jeong Chan(a)). Gradually his remembrances become clearer as he puts together his fragments of memory and the missing pieces supplied by Yun-hee, Sang-in, and the numerous suspected women, but just as he is close to solving the puzzle, he starts questioning whether or not he really wants a solution.
