| Armitage III is a cyberpunk anime liberally inspired by Blade Runner. Mars, 2046, is colonized with humans and emotionless robots. Even as the tension between mars and earth eases, anti-robot hysteria is at an all time high. Robophobic detective Ross Sylabus arrives from earth and is partnered with 19 year old Naomi Armitage. Immediately they find themselves involved in a case involving the systematic murder of advanced illegal third-generation robots which look, act, and feel exactly like human beings. Robots like Armitage herself. As they delve further into the case they realize is that there is more to these murders than simple bigotry - the fate of mars and earth hangs in the balance. Overall I found the movie to be a little disjointed, but I suspect the OVA series is probably better. There are some very thoughtful philisophical debates as well.
