| Now and then, Here and there Japanese (English) | 
| At first glance, it might appear that Now and Then, Here and There is just a high-quality children's fantasy sci-fi adventure, with a few elements of steampunk thrown in. But watch a little longer and it becomes clear that the series is better characterized by a single word: harsh. The violence that pervades it is not so much graphic as cruel and abusive - and nearly all of it committed against and among children. This is not a series for the faint of heart. This is a series for those among you who think that if you're going to depict war and violence, it should be done with brutal honesty and without any sort of gloss or sanitization.
Syuzo is a young boy with more energy and enthusiasm than sense. Wherever he's going and whatever he's doing, he never holds back or lets fear get in the way, until one fateful day when he befriends a silent girl watching the sunset on top of a smokestack hundreds of feet tall. Soldiers riding giant mechanical snakes come to abduct her, and while heroicly trying to save her they are transported to another place and separated. Friendless and far from home, his spirit is put to the test as he tries to rescue this strange girl from this oppressive and harsh world.
